Mathews Market Days
Festival

Mathews Market Days Festival is held annually in September to celebrate the unique cultural and historical heritage of Mathews, Virginia. This year's 27th Annual Mathews Market Days will be held Friday and Saturday, September 7 and 8, 2001 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Market Days Committee will be sponsoring a poster competition for the anniversary celebration. All artists are invited to submit original works of art. The artwork should have some relation to Mathews County history, to the Market Days festival, or to other points of interest pertaining to the Chesapeake Bay or to local life and the community of Mathews.

The contest winner will receive a $200 cash prize and the winning entry will be printed, displayed and sold during Market Days. Deadline for the entries is Friday, July 30. Applications and details are available at the Mathews Art Gallery, the Mathews Extension Office, the Mathews Memorial Library and the Focal Point Art Gallery in Gloucester, or by calling (804) 725-7196.

There are still a few craft booth spaces available, but they are filling up fast. Applications and additional information are available at the Mathews Extension Office (804) 725-7196.

The 27th annual festival will be located on the Mathews Courthouse Green, the historic center of the county with buildings dating to the late 1700s. Market Days will focus on old-fashioned fun with crafts, an art show and sale, delicious seafood, inside and outside live entertainment, expanded youth games, and much more. It will end with a Saturday night street dance - a great evening of dancing and socializing for all ages.
